![]() I am finally having the experience that I want. The Light Phone could have worked for me despite, AFAIK, not handling Whatsapp. I didn't go with Punkt because of the non-threaded text messages and inability to access Lyft/Uber. I also checked out Punkt MP02 and the latest Light Phone. But without the physical limit of a smaller screen, I always just re-installed them sooner or later. One could argue that I could have just deleted the "fun" apps off my previous phones, and that is true. Full disclosure, I had had a Blackberry in the distant past and really loved it. Turns out that my hypothesis was correct in my case. I hypothesized that even though the Titan Pocket is a regular Android 11 phone, its small screen and aspect ratio would be unpleasant enough to me to make it not fun to use for recreational purposes. It's nice to be able to have email on my phone, but it wasn't a need, nor was it an addiction for me to worry about. What wasn't so important to me, but often matters to other folks moving towards digital minimalism:Įmail-this was not problematic for me. QR codes are somewhere between a want and a needįunctions I DIDN'T want to use the machine for: Taxi/rideshare apps-I live in NYC, and while our public transportation is the best in the country, sometimes Lyft or Uber are way faster and needed. Whatsapp, to communicate with friends overseas I played it safe and transferred my work phone number to my iPhone, so that if I found that I needed an app that I hadn't planned on, it would still be there. I've had the Unihertz Titan Pocket for a week, and my expectations have been exceeded thus far. all in search of a way to get me off my phone while still having tools that I need. I've gone back and forth between Android phones and iPhones, setting them to black and white, and briefly trying a flip phone. ![]()
